The new Long Beach City College (LBCC) Kinesiology Complex project is currently in review by DSA with a construction start date of Fall 2019. The new project will provide enhanced and new sports facilities to meet the long-term needs of the school’s physical education and athletic programs. Westberg White Architecture (WWA) is working with the college to build a $40 million athletic facility which will house a state-of-the-art aquatic venue, a competition size sand volleyball venue, updated tennis courts, new softball fields and a new soccer field. The center of the Kinesiology Complex also consists of two new buildings complete with home and visitor locker rooms, team rooms, administration offices, training rooms, shower facilities and meeting rooms. This 700,000 sq. ft. athletic complex will not only offer renovations to some of the existing fields and buildings, but will also provide several new additions for the Kinesiology program.
The vision of this project is to provide adequate space and upgraded facilities for LBCC’s sports teams to start training on campus and hosting their own competitive tournaments. The scope of this project also includes updating the undersized aquatic pool, providing the sand volleyball team a new venue so they can start training on campus, upgrading the soccer and softball fields by improving their orientation and repositioning the current tennis courts to provide valuable space for several needed facilities. WWA is working alongside LBCC on the next step of this project as we approach construction and is excited for the next phase to take shape.
