PROJECT DETAILS

Oak Crest Middle School, a California Distinguished School nestled in Encinitas, CA across 18 sprawling acres, embarked on a transformational journey with WestbergWhite Architecture to turn the 1957 campus into a Flexible, Adaptable, and Technology-Rich environment. Our collaboration began with revamping the outdated science classrooms, which originally were not designed for adaptable use as a lab or lecture space. During the ensuing years, many portables were placed on the campus to accommodate growth. Leveraging the space previously occupied by temporary portables discreetly nestled at the rear of the campus, we envisioned a vibrant, three-dimensional Science Building. Situated within a slender plot between existing structures and a slope, our design maximized the space, ensuring classrooms remained central to the campus hub. As a result, a visually striking architectural masterpiece boasting whimsical rooflines and vibrant interiors that not only transformed the campus but also catalyzed a broader reimagination of the entire school's aesthetic.
