Project Summary
As an addition to an existing adult education campus, the new Maxine Waters – Child Development/Adult Employment Preparation Center was designed for adult education for childcare teachers. The 10,900 s.f. first floor of this facility is an operating child daycare center with a lobby, five classrooms, kitchen, nurse’s office, and staff support areas. Five classrooms on the second floor are for academic classes. Separate exterior access and restrooms are provided to each floor to provide for independent operation, and to meet the need to avoid mixing training and operating functions and staff . The first floor functional classrooms each have direct internal access to restroom facilities for supervision of children. An adjacent secure outdoor daycare playground provides for exterior activities.
