Project Summary
Del Mar Union School District selected Westberg White Architecture for the design of a new elementary school. They wanted a school design that would be different in form and function than the typical “out-of-the-box approach” from the district’s existing schools. Our solution was to create a child-centered, three-dimensional environment that is both fun and exciting, utilizing playful shapes, colors and textures. The school’s focal point and architectural centerpiece is its medial learning center, characterized by a whimsical open book shaped roof and highlighted by science beaker shapes. The design also celebrates the agricultural heritage of the area through the incorporation of galvanized sheet metal roofs and other architectural farming references.
