Project Summary
A stunning renovation of the college’s 1950s era is the Tessmann Planetarium. Our design replaced the aging infrastructure along with repurposing and renovation of the interior planetarium and office spaces. We envisioned the building’s exterior enhancing its profile to position it as one of the gateway buildings that flank an enhanced main entrance of the college. The building exterior received a complete makeover to conform its character in color, form and material to other significant adjacent buildings. We incorporated contemporary materials and graphics in the form of large-scale backlit images of space that communicate the planetarium’s unique function to students and visitors from throughout the county. Building access improvements included exterior semi-enclosed and open gathering spaces for planetarium events and general campus use. The interior of the facility was enhanced with new finishes, lighting and a new HVAC system.
