The design comprises three 3-story buildings, offering a total of 80 affordable workforce housing units. These include 30 one-bedroom one-bath, 30 two-bedroom one-bath, and 20 three-bedroom units two-bath, all constructed with Type VB wood frame and fully sprinkled for safety. The development features on-site amenities such as the Center for Working Families, shared laundry facilities, and two outdoor spaces—Piazza and Commons Court—complete with outdoor seating. Additionally, the site boasts 101 parking spaces and a bicycle storage room for up to 80 bicycles, with convenient access to public bus lines.
Recognizing the pressing need for revitalization of this low-income housing development, the city embarked on a journey to reimagine the space, enlisting architectural design services to breathe new life into the community cornerstone. City officials envisioned a modern, vibrant hub of affordable housing tailored to meet the evolving needs of its residents. WestbergWhite was provided the opportunity to conduct a concept design study for the replacement of the aging 50-year-old, 28-unit apartment complex, proposing a modern solution. With a focus on sustainability and inclusivity, our proposed solution aimed to uplift the neighborhood and enhance the quality of life for its inhabitants. Together with the city, we are shaping a brighter future for this vital community through thoughtful design and strategic planning.
